Walk + Eat

Beechworth

Beechworth is the High Country's hub for history, especially that of the Gold Rush! Leave from the Visitor Information Centre and return 75 minutes later fascinated, informed and ready for a gorgeous bowl of chestnut, leek and bacon soup at The Ox and Hound Bistro.

Bright

With 83 kilometres of trail, this walk is a case of 'choose your own adventure'. Plan ahead so you know how far you want to walk and and prepare for stunning scenery along the way. Lunch is at Tomahawks (a favourite among foodies), complete with a new Winter menu!

Myrtleford

The Ovens River Trail is particularly scenic, taking you on a journey past two parks and over two river crossings with delightful bushland in between. Finish your walk with a spectacular Middle-Eastern inspired lunch at Cafe Fez located inside Red Ramia Trading (a unique shopping experience you won't want to miss!)

Chiltern

This short walk is one for the animal lovers thanks to exquisite bird watching and a chance to see the golden mouse, aptly named as Chiltern was a hot spot for gold mining in the 1800s. Lunch at the Chiltern Bakery is a must with fresh roast beef rolls and loaded baked potatoes!

Rutherglen

Follow this meandering trail around the pristine lake and through a magnificent red gum forrest before arriving at Lake Moodemere Lakeside Restaurant for lunch. The Chambers family have been producing both wine and sustainably raised lamb for over 160 years - be sure to try their specialty!

Yackandandah

This walk is sure to build up an appetite! The Yackandandah Gorge is a relic of the Gold Rush, but today provides a beautiful hike past waterfalls and along the Yackandandah Creek. Pull up at The Rusty Bike Cafe for a tasty meal comprised of fresh, local produce.

Mansfield

With 134 kilometres to explore, The Great Victorian Rail Trail is one to plan ahead for. To help do that, visit Great Victorian Rail Trail. Lunch today is a good old fashioned, hearty pub lunch with all the classics cooked to perfection.
